As a solo traveler in Medellin, Colombia, I was looking for an affordable place to stay that offered a vibrant atmosphere and opportunities for cultural immersion. I stumbled upon The Hostel Los Patios and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I made during my trip.
Located in the heart of Medellin’s El Poblado district, The Hostel Los Patios is a beautifully designed hostel that offers a variety of rooms to accommodate different group sizes and budgets. I decided to book a bed in one of their comfortable dorm rooms, which was surprisingly spacious and had an en-suite bathroom.
During my stay, I was pleasantly surprised by the hostel’s lively social scene and the community vibe. There were numerous common areas such as the rooftop terrace, indoor bar and lounge areas, as well as a large pool complete with outdoor loungers and tables. I often found myself partaking in lively conversations over a few cocktails while enjoying the breathtaking views of the mountainous landscapes that surround Medellin.
One of the defining experiences of my stay was the hostel’s Spanish classes and language exchange events. As someone who was eager to improve my Spanish skills, it was great to have access to affordable language lessons with experienced and friendly teachers. The language exchange events offered the perfect opportunity to practice my Spanish skills with fellow travelers and locals.
Another highlight of The Hostel Los Patios was the cultural immersion activities. Some of these experiences included salsa classes, cooking workshops and city tours that gave a deeper insight into the local history and culture. I particularly enjoyed the salsa class with the hostel’s in-house dance instructor, where I finally learned the basic steps of the country’s most popular dance style.
Aside from these activities, the hostel also had an on-site kitchen where guests could prepare their own meals or buy affordable local cuisine. I also appreciated the laundry service and bike rental options.
In conclusion, my stay at The Hostel Los Patios was an incredibly engaging and memorable experience. The electrifying social scene, language classes, cultural immersion events and affordable offering made it so much more than just a place to stay. It was a true home away from home, and I would highly recommend it to any adventurous traveler looking to explore the vibrant city of Medellin.
